Captive of the Hitman (Hitman #4)

Captive of the Hitman (Hitman #4)

Captive of the Hitman by Alexis Abbott

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I was excited about this book based on the blurb, and the fact that I have a serious weakness for a good mafia story. But, regrettably, I did not find this to be a good mafia story.
I was disappointed in the insta-love in this book, as well as the prolific use of oddly placed exclamation points in her thoughts. It drew me out of the story.
I didn’t connect with either of the characters, nor get invested in their safety or relationship. I finished the book because I try not to DNF, not because I needed to know the outcome.
I hate to give a two-star rating, but what good are any of my reviews if I’m not true to my impression. I do see that plenty of other readers really liked this book, so evidently I’m in the minority here.
While I generally love mafia stories, unfortunately I do not recommend this book.

“I was sent to kill her.”

There was one rule for this job. No witnesses.

Then I saw her. She wasn’t supposed to be there, and I can only imagine what those dirtbags had been planning for her with her gorgeous blonde hair and her deadly curves. So I did the one thing I knew I shouldn’t: I killed every a**hole in that room and I took her as my prize.

I don’t save people’s lives. I’m a killer, a hired hitman for the Russian mob. But I tell her to trust me, and I mean it. I’m not going to let anyone take her away from me. I’d sworn off women long ago, but I can’t resist her long legs and wicked mind, and every time I tell myself I’m being foolish, she gets down on her knees and begs me not to leave her.

I’d rather die than lose her and the baby I know she’ll give me.

A full length Standalone Romantic Suspense novel. No Cliffhangers. Safe from cheating. Explicit language & swearing.

Compulsive reader. Romantic suspense/contemporary romance/dark romance/NA romance addict. Particularly fond of mafia, forced/arranged marriage, secret baby, kidnapping, and dark alpha heroes. Just out here doing my part for humanity- these books won't read themselves.
