Consent (The Loan Shark Duet #2)

Consent (The Loan Shark Duet #2)

Consent by Charmaine Pauls

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really liked this duet, the second book a bit more than the first because it didn’t have scenes featuring his sadism. I hated it in the first book when he would tell her to go down to the gym to be “punished” for things that weren’t even her fault. I’m glad that didn’t happen in the second book.
Anyway, I found this book, as well as the duet as a whole, suspenseful. I couldn’t put it down for the need to read what happened next. And I LOVE a good story line where she runs, and he finds her. Yes, please! More of that! I also love kidnapping (book one, and kind of book 2), secret pregnancy (book one), and another trope present in book two that I won’t discuss due to spoilers. Suffice to say, this duet scratched several of my favorite trope itches. Divine.
There was a part of the story line that seemed a bit over the top to me, but overall I really liked this duet.

“Perversely hot, gritty, and richly textured, Valentina and Gabriel’s story is one of the best dark romances I’ve read.” –– Anna Zaires, New York Times bestselling author of Twist Me

When Gabriel broke down my door, he took over my body and life. Never with force, but always with clever manipulation. He stripped me of my independence, my defenses, and my clothes and turned me into an addict. My addiction is him.

Once, I had dreams and a future. Now, I have fears, scars, and insatiable needs. I’m damaged beyond repair, but if I’m to survive the most dangerous man in Johannesburg, I can’t allow him to break me, because broken toys are destined for the garbage dump.

(CONSENT is the second and final full-length novel in a duology. The first book, DUBIOUS, must be read in order to follow the story.)

Compulsive reader. Romantic suspense/contemporary romance/dark romance/NA romance addict. Particularly fond of mafia, forced/arranged marriage, secret baby, kidnapping, and dark alpha heroes. Just out here doing my part for humanity- these books won't read themselves.
