Secrets by Aleatha Romig
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I love this author. I do. But I only liked this book. This is the first read from her that didn’t make me want to create a 6-star scale just for her to adequately capture her greatness. It was still a good book. It was still hot. It had (arguably) kidnapping… coercion, at least. And I do admit that kidnapping is one of my faves. Because evidently there is something wrong with me in the head. But, I digress…
Like I said- I liked this book. But I didn’t love it. And I fully expected to love it based on the author. Somehow this book and series, while good, didn’t quite captivate me the same way the Consequences series and Infidelity series did. Something was off for me. And, again, I only say that because this author is so amazing, so consistently a mind-blowing five-star read, that I was a bit stunned by this book/series. With the other two series I’ve read from her I felt her writing was recognizably different from others in this genre- the characters so developed, the story line so involved and full, the suspense good enough to function as a regular suspense novel if the sex scenes were to be cut out. I didn’t feel that way with this one.
If this is intended to be your first Aleatha Romig read I implore you to instead start with the Consequences series or the Infidelity series, both of which I loved so much I even gushed ad nauseum to my non-reader friends about them. Much to their delight.
If you’ve already read this author then you should read this book/series. Maybe I’m being overly critical. Maybe I don’t know what the heck I’m talking about. Who knows?
Recommended, but not my favorite from this author.

I’m Sterling Sparrow. You’ve no doubt heard my name or read it on the top of tall buildings. There’s more to my business—my realm—than what is seen aboveground.
Within the underbelly of one of America’s largest cities lives a world where a man’s word is either his most valuable tool or his most respected weapon. When my father ruled that world and that city, he promised me someone who would one day make my reign complete.
Since that day, long ago, Araneae McCrie has been mine.
She just didn’t know.
My father is now gone.
The city and the underbelly are now mine.
The time has come for me to collect who was promised to me, to shred her life of secrets and make her who she’s always been—mine.
Have you been Aleatha’d?
*Secrets is book one of the Web of Sin trilogy.
