Another winner!

Oh man- this series just keeps getting better. As with any really good series I am dreading its end… that lost feeling you get when you just know that your next read won’t be as fulfilling.
This book was so frustrating, but in the best way. Every time Jax and KC/Juliet pushed each other away I wanted to smack them, but it also made it more real. No one is perfect and totally well-adjusted, but the more messed up a person is the more they will struggle with healthy relationships. And boy, these two are messed up. But, there is beauty in that- they can be each other’s light if they can just get out of their own damn way and let it happen. They can understand each other’s brokenness in a way that someone who grew up in a healthy, loving environment just can’t.
There is so much to this story beyond the basic story line. I love K.C./Juliet’s journals. The writing exercise she does with her tutoring kids. The ever-present threat of Jax’s father getting out. Madoc’s shenanigans, and the way he tries to manipulate his reluctant friends into relationships when they are too scared to see what they need. Shane’s protectiveness. Cameron’s small side role showcasing Jax’s growth. The growth KC/Juliet experiences throughout the book as she throws off the shackles of her dysfunctional upbringing, made evident by the shift in her approach to the kids she tutors. There is so much here. And it really comes together to make for an excellent story. I love longer books- those that are only 150-ish pages just can’t (and don’t) have as rich of a story. It’s like comparing a ricecake to a multiple-course meal. No contest.
Sigh. Loved it. This is shaping up to be one of my top favorite-ever series.

Jaxon is the guy she’s supposed to avoid. K.C. is the girl he won’t let get away…

K. C. Carter has always followed the rules—until this year, when a mistake leaves her the talk of her college campus and her carefully arranged life comes crashing to a halt. Now she’s stuck in her small hometown for the summer to complete her court-ordered community service, and to make matters worse, trouble is living right next door.

Jaxon Trent is the worst kind of temptation and exactly what K.C. was supposed to stay away from in high school. But he never forgot her. She was the one girl who wouldn’t give him the time of day and the only one to ever say no. Fate has brought K.C. back into his life—except what he thought was a great twist of luck turns out to be too close for comfort. As they grow closer, he discovers that convincing K.C. to get out from her mother’s shadow is hard, but revealing the darkest parts of his soul is nearly impossible.…
