Twist Me (Twist Me #1)

Twist Me (Twist Me, #1)

Twist Me by Anna Zaires

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was torn by this series. I read it all as one, but will break down my reviews of each. My comprehensive review is attached to the all-in-one.
I was torn by this book. I was enthralled when Julian first met Nora. When he first took her. When she woke up on the island. But then… we enter the “dubious consent” period. And by that I mean rape. Unapologetic rape. And I mean unapologetic, because he never grows to regret doing it. So, I had trouble with that.
The writing is good. The characters are good. The explanations of what they are thinking and feeling is good.
I just… I don’t know how to take this book. I kept going through the whole series to see what happened. To see if Julian ever redeemed himself. But, I won’t get into my feelings on that here with my review of the first book.
It is a good book. It is a good series. Julian is NOT a good book boyfriend, in my eyes. I did not come around to liking him.
If you are triggered by rape, I would not read this series. The hero repeatedly rapes the heroine. Just a warning. He is also into arguably abusive via S&M to which she does not (at least initially) consent. And, to me, S&M without consent is just physical abuse.
That said, if you can power through that stuff then the series is excellent. I do recommend it. With above disclaimers.

Kidnapped. Taken to a private island.
I never thought this could happen to me. I never imagined one chance meeting on the eve of my eighteenth birthday could change my life so completely.
Now I belong to him. To Julian. To a man who is as ruthless as he is beautiful – a man whose touch makes me burn. A man whose tenderness I find more devastating than his cruelty.
My captor is an enigma. I don’t know who he is or why he took me. There is a darkness inside him – a darkness that scares me even as it draws me in.
My name is Nora Leston, and this is my story.
WARNING: This is NOT a traditional romance. It contains disturbing subject matter, including themes of questionable consent and Stockholm Syndrome, as well as graphic sexual content. This is a work of fiction intended for a mature, 18+ audience only. The author neither endorses nor condones this type of behavior.

Compulsive reader. Romantic suspense/contemporary romance/dark romance/NA romance addict. Particularly fond of mafia, forced/arranged marriage, secret baby, kidnapping, and dark alpha heroes. Just out here doing my part for humanity- these books won't read themselves.
