Hearts Of Darkness (The Santiago Trilogy Book 1)

Hearts Of Darkness by Catherine Wiltcher

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved it!

I came across this series as a suggestion in a Facebook group comment of all places, and I’m sure glad I did!
I don’t know how I haven’t come across this author before, but this book was great! I am so excited for the second book, and so crushed that the third book’s release date got pushed out until late June. Say it ain’t so!
I am a fan of a good kidnapping book, and this one delivers. I like that he never hit her (outside of a few swats on the behind, but that hardly counts), and he didn’t force her. Big points in my book. He intimidated her, sure. Threatened her. But at the end of the day, he relented and granted a degree of mercy on more than one occasion when she asked him to do so. More big points. He doesn’t just push her around, expecting her to fall in line and develop feelings for him as sometimes happens in this kind of book. Thank goodness.
I can already imagine a whole host of other books to possibly come from this world the author has created. There are at least two I’d like to see go on the schedule as soon as the third book in this series is released.
I love a good five-star read, and I love it even MORE when it comes out of left field, unexpected.
Oh, man- if you like kidnapping-turned-love stories I suspect you’ll love this book. I sure did.

“First, Dante Santiago held a gun to my head. Then he blew my world apart …”
He’s a criminal with no conscience. The whisper of a name, a faceless stranger… A man content to dwell in the shadows of his underworld.
I’m the light to his dark, an investigative reporter intent on exposing dangerous men like him. We were worlds apart until I caught his attention. Now I’m his captive, kept at the whim of a devil with no kindness or morality.
I may be an innocent but I have secrets too. For years I’ve been fighting a private war with the illegal drugs trade, with the cartel responsible for murdering my brother. I’m closer to revenge than I’ve ever been until his duplicity tears my life apart.
Ours is a relationship borne of hate but we can’t deny the fire that rages between us. But Dante’s a haunted man. He knows only pain and suffering until I see a spark of light buried deep within the shadows of his heart.
Now I have two choices. Save Dante Santiago’s soul or lose myself to his darkness forever.

Compulsive reader. Romantic suspense/contemporary romance/dark romance/NA romance addict. Particularly fond of mafia, forced/arranged marriage, secret baby, kidnapping, and dark alpha heroes. Just out here doing my part for humanity- these books won't read themselves.
